Welcome to Woodville, the Dogwood Capital of Texas! Woodville, however was not named after the plant, but in honor of George Tyler Wood, who was a military officer, a state legislator, and the second governor of Texas. Like many East Texas towns, Woodville was primarily a lumber-driven communitynot long after it was established in 1846. In 1965, the Woodville Lumber Company became the largest sawmill in Tyler County.
