This unincorporated town has its origins in 1820, when settlers from Tennessee first moved in and called it Nashville. Its name was soon changed to Shelbyville in 1837 to honor the hero of the American Revolution and governor of Kentucky, Isaac Shelby. This was the original seat of the county until 1866, when a vote was reached to move the county seat closer to the center of Shelby County. Visitors and residents can relive a piece of the town’s history by visiting a few of its prominent historical markers such as The Bickham House, currently known as the Welcome Hall, and Myrick’s Ferry Log House.
