Kirbyville TX Real Estate and Homes for Sale in Kirbyville TX

Kirbyville, Texas

Kirbyville is now home to over 2,100 residents, but it started out with a population of just about 300 back in 1896. The town is named after John Henry Kirby, who was a successful railroad and lumbermanas well as a legislator. Kirby had intended the town to be a market center for the lumber from his vast holdings in the area, which it did become. Eventually, the town became a more diverse agricultural community and was famous for a time for being the “home of the Satsuma oranges.”

Apart from lumber, the locals of Kirbyville also made a living out of cotton, cattle, dairy, and so on. Today, downtown Kirbyville’s charm is in its architecture, which harks backto an older, gentler Eastern Texas.
