Bronson TX Real Estate and Homes for Sale in Bronson TX

Just nine miles west of Hemphill in Sabine County, at the junction of State Highway 184 and U.S. Highway 96, is the community of Bronson, Texas. Named after the politician Samuel Bronson Cooper, this town has a rich history waiting to be told.

Bronson came to be in 1895 when John Henry Kirby, the most successful lumberman in East Texas in his time, set his sights on the area, which was then abundant with pine trees. Bronson soon became a boomtown, with a post office, the newspaper Bronson Bulletin, and the Kirby Lumber Company all established in 1902. By 1905, the Bronson Independent School District was operational and five years later Bronson was already home to 1,000 residents. Its population continued to increase through the 1920s with banks, businesses, churches, and highways and railways being built during a construction boom.

Bronson saw its population decline in the 1930s as timber supplies around the area thinned. Today, Bronson is a typical Texan small town with loads of character and a more diversified economy.
